SHOP TEXAS: InstaFinds

THE WIFE:

May was another ridiculously busy month for us. Can I please just take a second to applaud all you parents out there? We can barely handle adulting while y’all are juggling adulting, little league, homework, dance classes, and a whole host of other activities. Hats off to y’all. I get exhausted just thinking about doing laundry.

May also brought us some pretty epic InstaFinds. I am always coming across new shops and local businesses but the shops we found this month are pretty damn amazing. From an incredible artist to apothecaries, jewelry makers to knife makers, pretty ceramics to cute kid’s tees, stained glass to beard products – the whole line up is incredible. An extra special shout out to our veteran shop owners. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your service.

Now, go give them all a follow and as always, #SHOPLOCAL, #SHOPTEXAS.

Gabaldon Art – based out of El Paso

Patrick Gabaldon was born and raised in the Sun City of El Paso, Texas. His passion in art began after returning home to the vibrant color and vast expanse of the desert sky. His time away gave him a new perspective on the often forgotten west Texas desert. Gabaldon took his new found inspiration and made it his quest to show others his colorful interpretation of the borderland. Attorney by day and artist by night, Gabaldon quickly rose to local prominence with multiple exhibits across El Paso and features in print and digital media. Today, it is difficult not to find Gabaldon’s work on display across the city. His work has been exhibited in restaurants, art galleries, the El Paso International Airport, Southwest University Ballpark, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and even as stickers on laptops and water bottles. The bright tones that have become synonymous with Gabaldon’s work illuminate the cross border culture he attributes as the inspiration behind his painting.

Gaskill Knives – based out of

My name is Matthew Gaskill. I began making knives early 2015. Here is how I got started. Years ago I inherited some equipment when my grandfather passed, but never really knew what they were used for. After doing some research, I learned he used them to make knives. Since I had most the equipment already, I figured I would give it a try. I have been addicted ever since.

Wild House – based out of College Station

This company is proudly Woman and Veteran owned. After separating from the United States Marine Corps in 2017 I launched Wild House full-time. Each product is handcrafted from recipes of my own making, bringing you truly unique, scratch made body care. Your body deserves the best this earth has to offer, and we owe it to the wild world to leave her better than we found it. Natural and sustainable are not just catchy words to put on labels, they are the driving passions behind this brand and I thank you for letting me share that passion with you today. From our ingredient lists full of organic, fair-trade, and natural ingredients, to our packaging that is recyclable, reusable, and in the case of our Body Bars-100% compostable-we aim to bring you a product that is good for you, and good for the wild. When our products ship we pack them wrapped in newspapers, paper ads, and any paper packing materials our bulk ingredients come in, giving all of this paper that would ordinarily be thrown away a second life. We encourage our customers to recycle this paper through their city services, or use it to ship packages of their own.

Wild House is based in College Station, TX and while we don’t have a brick and mortar location (yet!) we participate in numerous vendor events and markets all over South East Texas. We offer 50 cent returns on all used bottles and jars, in person, at any of our events and will clean and reuse these containers for new products. We can’t wait to get wild with you!
